Ibiza never ceases to surprise us! If you are looking for experiences outside the usual beach leisure circuits, we suggest you read this blog to the end, with our proposals related to urban art in Ibiza.
You already know that Ibiza has always been a magnet for artists from all over the world for its beauty, its magnificent nature and white sandy coves and incredible landscapes. Artists of all disciplines have decided to take up residence on this magical island attracted by its charms.
That is why you will find interesting contemporary art centers and art galleries distributed around the island, which collect samples of renowned artists along with works by local artists. Among all these proposals we highlight the Street Art, urban art or street art that has more and more weight as an artistic expression.
In 2011 the Ibiza Bloop Festival was born and it was then when Street Art settled definitively in Ibiza. It is an event created by Biokip Labs dedicated to proactive art where, every year, artists from around the world come to Ibiza to share their works always based on social issues of interest. You can find from large murals, to sculptures, or interactive installations, urban art, photography, music or video mappings among many others that will make you reflect on current issues.
The last edition number XV of this festival took place last August under the slogan ‘Believe’. It was a unique event with more than 60 murals and outdoor installations by great artists such as Silva Ramacci, Said Dokins, Zsar or Malarky. It is an inclusive and totally free festival and this year, according to its director, they chose the theme Believe because of the current situation of economic instability, war and climate crisis.
On this occasion, the festival also had the collaboration of Endesa, as well as the City Council of Sant Josep and Ibiza, and for the first time the island’s power plant was one of the locations of the festival, hosting the exhibition Ephemeral Electricities in the old warehouse, where the Mexican artist Said Dokings presented a piece in which he superimposed different degrees of text and calligraphy that expressed the words of hope, resilience and freedom. The venue also hosted pieces by Biokip Labs, Silva Ramacci, Telenova and Amadama.
This edition also featured a novelty that consisted in the geolocation of the artistic pieces, so that new works could be seen thanks to a virtual map where they were marked. By pointing with the camera, the application pointed out the name, year and theme of the work.
SECOND EDITION OF THE ART ON TRUCKS URBAN ART FESTIVAL
Last June of this year, the second edition of the Urban Art Festival ART ON TRUCKS was also held at the youth leisure center C19, the City Council of Ibiza and Pinturas Rubio.
This is a proposal especially aimed at young people, with a different leisure offer and in the street that was held throughout the day in the Plaza de Antoni Albert i Nieto in Ibiza town. The festival featured various activities, workshops and music by Dj Kace and Dj Fonki Cheff.
Also here was an exhibition of graffiti on trucks, with the participation of urban artists such as Suso33, Tono Cruz, Roice, Dirty, Irene Lopez, Hosh, Sune, Move, Hize, Zsar and EdZumba. In parallel there were other activities related to the world of hip hop, or the customization of t-shirts or graffiti. You should not miss the next edition and keep in mind that all proposals are free. You can check on their Instagram for upcoming dates.
URBAN ART ROUTE IN SANT ANTONI
And finally we also like the urban art route in Sant Antoni, a proposal that you should not miss to discover another Ibiza full of creativity.
The whole urban area of Sant Antoni has multiple artistic expressions. We love this route, called ArtUrbà (urban art route). Here we leave you the link to the map of the route that will serve as a guide to explore the streets and find the large murals painted on walls and facades of buildings. The route consists of 16 works and shows creations by artists from different countries such as Ukraine, Italy, Chile, England, Belgium and Spain.
You can also find murals in many entertainment venues and restaurants, such as the restaurant Tacosanto, which has several environments such as the outdoor terrace presided over by an artistic mural by the Ibizan Aida Miró, a multidisciplinary artist currently based in New York who recently opened the exhibition ‘Tribute to woman & diversity’ in a gallery in the Bronx with portraits of women from that neighborhood. In the interior lounge there are tables for lunch or dinner where many join in the fun that accompanies Mexican food. In the back, there are two rooms with a more nocturnal spirit, with special lighting that highlights the neon colors of the other mural, the one created by artist Curro Gonzalez.
After a day full of different visual experiences, you will surely like to enjoy one of the best atmospheres of San Antonio in its Vibra District hotel, in the heart of downtown and with a decoration that honors its location in an environment surrounded by artistic inspiration. Now you will need a well-deserved rest and for this, we suggest any of the best hotels on the island for its excellent value for money and recharge your batteries.
