Ibizan Cuisine
1- Bullit and guisat de peix
Bullit de Peix is one of the most famous dishes in typical Ibizan cuisine. The size of the dish will take you by surprise, so definitely come hungry! It comprises 2 dishes. First, you will be served different types of fish like grouper, john dory and red scorpion fish, which are boiled and seasoned with the famous and delicious garlic and oil dressing. Plus, it is usually served with potatoes. And if that’s not enough, then finish your meal with a lavender pudding rice.
2. Fried octopus
Ibizan cuisine often includes octopus, so it’s very common to find fried octopus or grilled octopus frita in any good restaurant. An absolute delicacy! A few years ago you could usually find this delight in any tapas bar, but it has now evolved and become a chef’s recommendation or main meal in many restaurants. It is normally served with boiled potato, peppers or mashed potato. It might also come with special side dishes, depending on the restaurant.
3. Sofrit Pagés
If you’re a meat lover, Sofrit Pagés will undoubtedly become one of your favorite meals! It’s much sought after in Ibiza and Formentera. In the past, it was usually served on special occasions such as Christmas and Easter… Nowadays we believe it is perfect for any time of the year. This dish contains chicken and lamb, cold meats such as Majorcan sausage and Catalan sausage, potatoes and other vegetables. If we’re sure about anything it’s that after tucking into this stew, you’ll need to head straight to the beach or hotel to rest, but with the gorgeous beaches we have, it definitely won’t be an inconvenience!
4. Crostes salad
The “crostes” salad is a well-known Ibizan dish that you can’t miss. You’ll find it as a starter or on all day menus in restaurants. This salad is so easy to make yet so tasty at the same time. The ingredients are simple: bread toasted until its crispy cut into small pieces, tomato, garlic and dried fish. Do you agree that a delicious dish doesn’t have to take hours to prepare?
5. Rice in All Its Versions in Ibiza
Is there anything better than a rice dish by the beach? It’s hard to top… but if it’s on the beach of Ibiza or at any restaurant by the Mediterranean, it’s still a treat… Rice is our weakness. And in Ibiza, brothy rice, black rice and paella just cannot be beaten. Their intense and tasty flavour will have you coming back for more. Why not try them all? We’ve got plenty of delicious food!
6. Coca with peppers
All we can say is that you’re going to want to eat it all day, every day. For breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s simply top class! We recommend coca with peppers and olives from typical Ibizan bakeries, as their taste and handmade dough are in a league of their own. They also come with many other ingredients. A typical dish of Ibiza perfect for snacking at any time of the day.
Typical Ibizan Sweets
7. Flaó
It’s dessert time! Flaó has to be the most popular and sought after dessert in Ibiza. It used to be very common to have it during Holy Week, but now you can find it in any bakery and Ibiza’s takeaways too. You’ll ask yourself: which ingredients make this dessert so special and tasty? It is mainly like a fresh goat’s or sheep’s cheese tart on a shortcrust pastry which is baked in the oven for 35 minutes. What is considered characteristic or peculiar is the fact that the filling contains chopped peppermint leaves that make the flavour stand out. We recommend sprinkling it with sugar. Just delicious!
8. Greixonera
It’s time to order dessert and you don’t know which one to choose. It happens to us all the time. Greixonera is a delicious dish. Have you wondered which ingredients make this dessert so tasty? Well, it’s easy to make. It involves layering up coiled puff pastry that has hardened over recent days, soaking it with egg custard, boiling the milk with lemon, cinnamon or orange. It’ll blow you away!
